Summary of the course

The world of cosmetics is built on a foundation of carefully selected ingredients, each serving a specific purpose. Abrasives gently exfoliate skin and polish surfaces, while antioxidants protect products and skin from oxidative damage. Chelating agents stabilize formulations by binding metal ions, and color additives provide aesthetic appeal. Flavoring agents and fragrances enhance sensory experiences, making products more enjoyable.

Moisturizers hydrate the skin, while skin protectants form a barrier to shield it from irritants. pH buffers maintain the product's acidity or alkalinity for optimal skin compatibility. Preservatives ensure longevity by preventing microbial growth, and propellants are used in aerosols for even product delivery.

Solvents dissolve other ingredients for uniform consistency, and surfactants enable effective cleansing by reducing surface tension. Sweeteners improve the taste of products like lip balms, and thickeners enhance texture and viscosity. Lastly, active ingredients are the powerhouse components that deliver targeted benefits, such as anti-aging, hydration, or sun protection.
